2024 Faves: Voodoo Remixes by Kero One

A 7-inch vinyl record sits on a black textured turntable platter. The record label features an orange and teal color scheme with D'Angelo's name and "Spanish Joint (Kero One remix)" visible. The label also shows "SIDE A" and "108 bpm" markings. A turntable tonearm is visible in the corner of the frame, positioned over the record. The image is shot from above, capturing the entire platter and record in clear detail.

When Kero One first released his remix of D’Angelo’s Spanish Joint it took over clubs everywhere. It was perfect for those of us who love D’Angelo but struggle to incorporate his songs into a set that people can dance to. The way Kero One’s layers in synths, drums, and bass to bring a beloved mellow groove to the dancefloor is masterful.

A decade later, this remix is available on 45, with the flip side containing a brand new Kero reworking of D’Angelo’s classic cover of Roberta Flack’s, Feel Like Makin’ Love.

If you ever doubt the skill or artistry that goes into creating remixes, Kero One is a great example to listen to.
